The Altiplano Campus

The Altiplano campus of the Universidad del Valle is nestled within a pine forest overlooking beautiful lake Atitlán.

The campus houses a working farm with greenhouses where students work as part of their coursework or for community service credits.

In addition to sprawling fields, the campus consists of 25 modern classrooms, two science labs, three computer labs, and a school library with an audiovisual department that provides projectors, laptops, cameras, and sound equipment. Wireless internet access is available throughout the campus.

In 2008, thanks to support from USAID, the university opened the first virtual classroom in the Guatemalan highlands. It has been providing the local population with unprecedented access to courses streamed from other universities and the ability to communicate through videoconferencing with people from around the world.

International students, study abroad groups, and volunteers are housed in dormitories or suites with shared bathrooms and kitchens.

The university cafeteria serves delicious, freshly-prepared meals and snacks at extremely affordable prices (lunch: $2-3).
